Ceremonial start of the construction of the Central Emergency Department at Thomayer University Hospital
On Wednesday 19 August 2026, a ceremony was held at Thomayer University Hospital in Prague 4 to mark the start of construction of the new Central Emergency Department, for which we are acting as the general contractor. The ceremony included a ceremonial tapping of the foundation stone in the presence of the Prime Minister of the Czech Republic and the Minister of Health.
The new wing will be built in the southern part of the hospital grounds on the site of the existing G4 and G5 wings, which are due to be demolished. The building will have two underground and three above-ground storeys, and its gross floor area will total 8,291.2 m².
The transport connection for the new wing will utilise the existing network of roads and footpaths within the hospital grounds. Patients will be able to be dropped off by car directly in front of the new wing, which will contribute to rapid and comfortable access to emergency care.
The project will also include associated operational and technical buildings and the necessary infrastructure. The new Central Emergency Department will expand and improve the facilities at Thomayer University Hospital for the provision of acute healthcare.
